Press Release - Killing Homosexuals

Date: February 16, 2005
From: Philadelphia Gay Pride
Re: Repent America, Michael Marcavage

The Gay Pride organization for the Greater Philadelphia area strongly condemns the latest hate speech of Michael Marcavage of Repent America and calls on Christians and all people of faith to reject his "suggestion" that homosexuals should be put to death:

"According to the Scriptures, it's the government's job to enforce God's law and to uphold the law, and the Bible talks about how, I don't want to really get into this — it'll make me sound like I'm crazy — but it does talk about how [homosexuals] are to be put to death. The wages of sin is death. But I want to make [it] clear that I'm not advocating the [independent] killing of homosexuals...I'm saying that the government's duty is to uphold God's law ...I know that's harsh, but we have all broken the law, God's law, and we need to be held accountable."
Michael Marcavage, from an article "Jesus Geek Superstar" published by the Philadelphia CityPaper.net.

We call on the American Family Assoc. Center for Law & Policy, the law firm of Shields & Hoppe (Media), and the press outlets of Agape Press and World Net Daily - all of whom have supported his crusade -- to renounce Michael Marcavage in the clearest and most unequivocal terms. We call on you to reject his notion that God's law requires homosexuals be put to death. We remind you of Matthew's Gospel warning against false prophets who come "in sheep's clothing but are as ravenous as wolves." Matthew 7, 15:20.
