to the City of Brotherly (and Sisterly) Love

Philly Pride is a proud member of the International Association of Lesbian/Gay Pride Coordinators.  Interpride.    NERP (Northeast Regional Pride) covers all gay pride groups from Washington D.C. north and east to Maine.  The IALGPC has a yearly conference in October and NERP has a yearly conference in February/March.  Philadelphia has been chosen as the host for the 2009 NERP Conference,

March 13-15, 2009.

The goal of the Philly Pride committee for the 2009 NERP conference is to get 100% attendance from all NERP affiliated groups.

To accomplish this, we have a multi-layered plan:

(1)  We are going to keep the conference fees to a minimum

(they are $100 -- a bargain!)

(2)  We will offer scholarships to any group that needs it

(3)  We will secure host housing to avoid the hotel expense

(again, you need to contact us)

(4)  The host hotel, the Alexander Inn, will be offering the lowest cost rooms in the City.  We have the entire hotel, so you only need to mention that you are coming to the conference.

The Philly Pride committee is working very hard to make this a rewarding and interesting experience for all.  We firmly believe in the third party approach to workshops, i.e., instead of pride coordinators talking to pride coordinators about advertising, it is more beneficial to have an advertising person speak to us directly.  We firmly believe that we have to offer workshops that are equally important to all our groups, which are wildly disparate.  We also want to do some different things.  Some of the ideas we have currently pending are workshops on "Spirituality and the Gay Community" and "Its Our Pride Too" featuring atypical gay groups (you will be surprised).  We also have an invitation out for a very interesting speaker who may shine some light on how the outside world views the gay pride movement.

We are negotiating for the location of the Saturday night get together.  When it becomes etched in stone, we will post it.
